Golden Girl has super Olympic games

The first week of the Olympic Games belonged to swimming sensation Stephanie Rice. Rice became our first gold medallist of the Beijing Games when she took out gold in the 400m Individual medley, and followed it up in the following days with gold in the 200m IM and the 4x200m Fresstyle. Derryn Hinch spoke to one of her former coaches about Australia's new Golden Girl.

After a torrid month of mishaps and security issues, Derryn Hinch discussed the state of Australian airline QANTAS on Thursday night, questioning the company's logic behind trying to cover up defects in planes for the sake of 'public peace of mind', and blasting QANTAS management's order to staff to 'think like journos'.

Hinch: Kennett gay slur not smart

3AW Drive's Derryn Hinch could not believe that Jeff Kennett, the head of Beyond Blue and president of Hawthorn Football Club, could be so stupid as to back the Bonnie Doon football club for sacking a trainer simply because he is gay. Watch Hinch ask the questions of Kennett no-one else seems to be doing in the mass media.

Hinch gives the Pope a 'send-off'

The Pope's recent visit to Australia seemed to be accompanied by some of the most gushing reporting in Australian history. Hinch struggled to comprehend the blow-by-blow coverage The Pontiff was afforded, particularly on his final day in the country. All that being said, Hinch decided to give Pope Benedict his own kind of send-off.

Hinch: Keeping you informed

Richard Arnold crossed to 3AW to discuss the release of the first video from Guantanamo Bay, which shows Omar Khadr, then 16, under intense interrogation. Also, after the much-vaunted Green Paper was released by the government, Hinch analysed what it means for you and grilled Penny Wong on its merits.

Hinch: 'Go you bewdy!'

Thirty-nine years ago three men blasted off from Cape Kennedy on their way to the moon. The men of Apollo 11: Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins. Someone recorded a live broadcast  that went to air on more than fifty stations in the Macquarie Network. The reporter at Cape Kennedy was one callow youth named Derryn Hinch. In Sydney there was announcer Terry Dear (Bruce Mansfield’s Uncle) and broadcaster Brian White - later a 3AW GM.

3AW's Hinch caused quite a stir recently when he said that he had decided to 'join the Andrew Bolt school of climate change', and with the help of an expert, explained why he believes that the Rudd government has run a fear campaign in regards to its environmental policy.

3AW's Hinch didn't just ask the 'fluffy' questions in his one-on-one interview with Mery Streep, who is in Australia for the promotion of Mamma Mia! Streep was asked if she really is a 'b----' to work with, but also shared some wonderful glimpses into the life of one of the world's most-respected actors.

Perils of free speech

3AW's Derryn Hinch talks about the ramifications of the police stopping a teenager wearing a T-shirt which has 'Jesus is a ----' as its slogan. Also, A sexual assault victim told Hinch she had her graphic personal letters read by Australia Post staff, who thanked her for putting their lives into perspective.

Mick GattoGatto wishes Derryn an 'early death'

Hinch returned with a bang on Monday, slamming everyone from Eddie McGuire and Ray Martin to Mick Gatto. The 3AW Drive host was talking about how criminals have become 'celebrities', and the editorial prompted Gatto to call in and reveal that he has a punching bag with Hinch's 'name on it' and that he would like to do a bit more than punch him.

Internet useHinch shows no mercy

70 Australians, including a primary school teacher who has since suicided, have been charged with downloading child pornography. The world-wide sting, which led to the arrestst of thousands, was conducted after a hacker hacked into a legitimate website offering thousands of illegal images of child porno, receiving 12 million hits in 72 hours.

Hinch 'sweet and sour' on rally

Several thousand protesters massed at the Parliament House steps on Sunday to demand the Victorian Government pass a law that prevents serial rapists and child sex offenders from being released incognito back in the community. Hinch not happy with Hughes

Derryn Hinch recently slammed FM station Nova 100 and breakfast host Dave Hughes for running tours of notorious gangland spots around Melbourne with Roberta Williams. Listen to the pair share their differing views in a fascinating interview on 3AW Drive.

Hinch will keep trying

Derryn Hinch is adamant that a serial sex offender - who is about to be released from jail - should be named and shamed given the liklihood he will re-offend. Hinch did name the man in his editorial on May 5, but 3AW censored the words out in his angry editorial.

Hinch also spoke with UK Correspondent Malcolm Stuart about people from the island of Lesbos taking a fight to court to bar gay people from using the word 'lesbian'.

John and Jenny DeavesEx-wife reveals more sordid facts about John Deaves

Dorothy Deaves, ex-wife of John Deaves, confirmed with Hinch that John's illegal relationship with daughter Jenny has been going for eight years - not one. In his opening editorial on the matter on Monday, Hinch slammed the incestuous couple, and used the 'Ostrich people' as an example of what can happen to in-bred children.

Is Hinch breaking the law?

Derryn Hinch told his audience on Thursday that he showed parts of episode 11 of the banned Underbelly TV series. Hinch talked about how ge got hold of the whole series and highlighted the absurdity of the show being banned but the books the series are based on being OK for public consumption.
